I made this using the following supplies:
12x16 empty frame purchased at a thrift store
screen (buy a roll at a home improvement store)
spray paint in 2 colors
masking tape
staple gun and staples (short staples)
The How-To:
- First: spray paint the frame in one color. Let dry at least 10 mins or so. Touch to see if it is still tacky.
- Second: Tape the frame with the masking tape to create a border that you like. I chose to tape it diagonally by putting a piece of tape down and then put another piece next to it. Remove the first piece of tape and place it next to the other one. This gave me a one inch space between each color/piece of tape. Keep repeating this step to create the every-other-one stripe effect.
- Third: Then I spray painted with the green and removed the tape once the paint was dry.
- Fourth: After you have removed the tape, flip over your frame and cut the screen to fit the back of your frame. Staple it to the frame. make sure your staples aren't too long or they will go through the frame to the other side. If they do go through, you can pull them out and sand down the other side and re-paint...or chuck in the scrap pile like I did and start over. HAHA.
I added little pins around the front edge of my frame to hang my other earrings and necklaces on. I gently tapped the pins in with my hammer. So far so good. You could use small cup hooks found at the Dollar Store or good ol' Wally World. Just simply screw them in the front edge of the frame.
To hang your jewelry organizer thing, I just added a couple of staples to the back of the frame. I used the back side of my hammer to gently pull the staples part way out so that a nail can fit under the staple when I hang it on the wall.
*How to hang a frame the easy way*
Take a piece of masking tape across the hardware of a frame (the staples in this case) get your sharpie and mark on the tape where the hardware is. Out the tape on the wall and put a nail in where the mark is. Remove the tape and the nails will be exactly where you want to hang your frame. Easy. No level needed, no measuring required. :)
